SQL Developer

We are looking for an experienced SQL Server Developer/DBA technical specialist providing dedicated SQL Server expertise - currently 2008/2008R2.

The ideal candidate will have worked in an environment with highly transactional financial systems, developing for a high throughput, high concurrency database.

Experience of VLDB (>100GB) is preferred.

This is not a pure DBA position, but there is scope to take on these duties – particularly in terms of Performance Tuning, and coding for High Availability, as well as joining in with the day to day management of a growing number SQL Servers.

Key Functions:

  • The bulk of role will be writing TSQL, primarily Stored Procedures and UDFs, and Database Design.
  • Working with development team to solve problems, create and refine technical specs and ensure requirements are met.
  • Turn technical specs into high quality, efficient Database implementation.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation and logical models where appropriate.
  • Ad-hoc querying will also be required.
  • Able to take on day to day DBA duties for SQL Servers as required.
  • Scope to expand into OLAP/Reporting Services etc

Required skills:

  • Good Knowledge Elicitation/Requirements Gathering skills.
  • Deep understanding of SQL Server 2000/2008/208R2, T-SQL, stored procedures, UDFs and transactions. (3 years)
  • Good Relational Database design experience
  • General understanding of DBA activities

Advantageous:

  • Documentation/design tools e.g. Erwin, ERStudio or Sybase PowerDesigner.
  • Ability to translate OO design into effective relational design.
  • VLDB experience
