Abusive/innapropriate? Report this post.

I've just realised that my knowledge of this game is pants and, as I've suspected all along, I'm not as good as I think I am. I'll no longer contribute to these forums cos quite frankly, who the hell am I to pretend I know anything about poker? I'll continue to play at PKR, though, until I donk off the rest of my bankroll.

Yes, I am tilting and, yes, I've had a few beers.

But if this really IS my last post then let me leave you the 3 BIGGEST lessons that playing poker has taught me:

1) Unless donking off loose change at the micro/low-limit tables - ALWAYS PLAY YOUR "A" GAME. If in doubt, get out!

2) NEVER PUT DOWN MORE THAN 5% OF YOUR BANKROLL AT THE TABLE.- Probably the most ignored "rule" of poker.

3) When it comes to poker IF YOU SEE YOUR MONEY AS EXPENDABLE, THEN 90% of the time, WAVE GOODBYE TO IT. Poker chips are valuable ammunition not worthless confetti.

Thank you and goodnight.

when i opened tis thread i expected to see some donk running his mouth about the RNG generator...instead i find some unbelievably solid advice that is often ignored.

Poker is 50% (skill/luck combo) and 50% (Bankroll management/emotional control/table selection) etc.

The second part is especially important if you do this as your main income. It is also the part that is most often ignored. You covered some extremely solid points that apply to the second part. well done.

I guess it's different for everyone,It just depends what sort of character you are.
You can be the quickest learner and the best poker player in the world but if you cant handle the emotional side then you are up s*it creek without a paddle imo.

Controlling your emotions and not tilting is absolutely essential. People forget about the luck factor in the short term. What you have to remember is that you can only play your best and get your money in in good situations, you cant control the cards.

When I made a commitment to play poker 5-7 hours a day the mental stress and emotional swings really fu**ed me up and I found myself tilting through several buy ins without even noticing I was playing badly sometimes. It wasnt until I looked through my hands later and thought WTF!!!

Personally I know my emotions are my biggest weakness but now I know that I am improving.

and Wobblebottom....just because you have realised you dont know as much as you think you did doesnt mean you should quit or stop writing in the forums. If anything it means you should spend more times on the forums soaking up the knowledge! And look at the positive..at least you have acknowledged you need to improve. Most people out there have no clue but THINK they know it all....

@ wobblebottom, a sign that you are becoming a beter player is realising that you knew less than you thougth you did....... just means your actual ability was worse than what you thought and now you know how goood you are you can realise you are much better.......

i consider myself an accomplished successful mid stakes poker player now, and i know less now than i THOUGHT i knew 6 months ago..... bu i actually know about 10 times more than i actually knew 6 months ago..........

gl done give up, foru posting and readin others responses and how they differed from mine is how i leanrt where i was going wrong and improved glglgllgl

Speaking as someone who is near the bottom rung when it comes to poker knowledge, I do hope you continue to post.
The more varied the skill levels of the contributors the more extensive the knowledge posted.
Someone at the top may have forgotten a bit of the basics which helped them get there.

This is a great post. Its a great reality check for a lot of us. Everyone likes to think they know more about poker than they actually do (me included). I'll certainly be following the aforementioned rules more strictly (if thats a word).
