Ring games are the best for building your bank roll deffo, SNGs & Torneys are for later. yes you dont risk all your roll in a SNG/Torny (nor should you in a cash game - see below!) but the time vs pay off is alot less - unless you win big in a torny!!
I only started playing for real money 8 months ago. I am no poker guru by any means but the best advice from my experience I can give you is:
- people play completley differently in real cash games and you will probo need to change too. this does not mean you are a bad poker player, it just means people play better in cash games (most of the time anyway)
- dont pay to see a flop with a crappy hand. This may mean you dont play a hand for 5 turns, or even more - it will help you in the long run
- Careful of chasing (too many) flushes/straights you are likely to lose alot real quick
- use pot odds
- Start off low limit cash games, as your skill improves you can move up.
- This is the most important in my opinion, I was told this, didnt listen and Busted in a big way (full tilt not PKR) NEVER EVER play above your limit, yes the cash you can win is more, but when you lose (And you will), well.....makes you kinda sick, trust me.
Good luck at the felt mate
