I'll be out for this for a few beers, Valuev is one of the worst boxers technically I think I've ever seen, it's just the fact hes such a fkin giant. He should of been beat alot more by now but he's always got the decision victory in some very dodgey decisions, especially against Holyfield last time out when he was completely outboxed for 12 rounds.

If Hayes gonna win he's gonna have to knock him out in my opinion, Valuev has never been knocked down which is hilarious, I'm guessing if he gets knocked down it would take him a fair amount of effort to get up! Imagine 7 foot 6 falling down. Haye will definitely have the speed advantage, one thing I do worry about though is he looks incredibley ripped for this fight, which in general boxing terms generally means that the stamina might not be there, which Haye is gonna need as it could easily go 12 rounds.

I still fancy Haye hes lightening fast however he has been knocked down quite alot before. Definitely looking forward to the fight though, there hasn't been a decent heavyweight fight I've looked forward to in years until now. Nice to see the premier division having something to shout about for once.

He won't be able to miss with body shots and lateral movementHappy

Also Ruslan Chagaev is 2 inches shorter than Haye, has a reach 4 inches shorter and slower handspeed and doesn't possess Haye's power. He handled Valuev easily.

See post in Social Lounge for Freddie Roach's expert view ofhow the fight will pan out.

Another interesting point is the fact Haye is going to have to punch so high up, I can tell you first hand that punching that high is a completely different technique to your standard manouevers in boxing. Obviously having so long to prepare for this fight he should of adjusted his style abit but still it's not exactly a natural movement to be punching in that fashion, he's going to be punching a good foot above himself which is quite astounding really for a heavyweight fight, well any division for that matter. Be interesting to see just how easy it will be to hit Valuev.

Another thing to mention is never go off British betting sites for these fights, they probably have Haye as favourite quite comfortably and it's all pro Haye, that's just the result of media hype. You just have to look at the Hatton v Mayweather fight when Hatton was favourite on all the betting sites which was just hilarious. Mind you they probably made a killing from people backing Hatton.

For what it's worth I back Haye, I just don't know if he'll be able to knock Valuev down or not, certainly a very interesting fight.

the value here is valuev to win on points..purely because it is in Germany (home of the most corrupt boxing decisions in history!).
Haye is not a good heavyweight and even now Holyfield would pummel him!
Not saying valuev is any good either but think he will soak up the onslaught in first 3 rounds then start leaning all over him and getting the odd huge jab in..this will be enough to win on points..which like I say is not gonna be ard for him in Germany!
4/1 btw Wink

Four of us in the office have gone for a draw.

Haye will struggle to KO Valuev just because of the size and weight difference.

Valuev will struggle to lay a glove on the much faster Haye.

The German refs won't want to see Valuev lose the title on 'home' turf.

Go for a draw and Valuev gets to keep the title, Haye stays at the top, potential for lucrative rematch etc.

And 60-1 too! I'm hoping for the dullest fight in history.

Here is the view of Freddie Roach. Not only the no 1 trainer in the world, but has proven himself to be an extremely astute judge of fights and fighters styles.

Freddie Roach says David Haye will knock out Nikolai Valuev.

The legendary trainer, currently preparing for Manny Pacquiao's stellar showdown with Miguel Cotto, is adamant the Londoner will be "flatten" the giant Russian on Saturday.

Haye will be conceding almost 10 inches in height and anything up to seven stones in weight at the Nuremberg Arena, live on Sky Box Office.

But Roach is no stranger to taking down bigger opponents having recently guided Pacquiao past Oscar de la Hoya and Ricky Hatton, and believes the Hayemaker will have too much for Valuev.

"Haye will flatten Valuev, he'll crush him," he told Telegraph Sport. "He's too fast, too strong, too aggressive.

"Haye will become the first man to knock Valuev out. Sure, the big guy has shown he is resilient, and I'm surprised he can go 12 rounds without getting tired because he is so heavy, but with Haye's power and speed he's going to get KO'd."

Roach also believes that Haye is the man to spark some much-needed life into the heavyweight division.

The Klitschko brothers currently hold three of the four titles, with Wladimir in posession of the IBF and WBO and Vitali the WBC belt.

Haye has seen fights with both of them fall through and having upset them both with the infamous severed head T-shirt, might struggle to tempt them into a unification bout should he beat Valuev.

But Roach, who will also join up with Amir Khan shortly for his December showdown with Dmitriy Salita, says he is just the man to breathe new life into the blue riband division.

"Haye believes in himself, he talks a bit of bull, but he's just trying to ignite interest in the fight," he said. "He's young, exciting, and charismatic.

"Haye's the best thing for the heavyweight division right now, because he comes to fight, he comes to win, and he's a puncher.

"That's what heavyweight boxing should be all about. The Klitschko brothers are great boxers but they are boring. They don't take risks. You've got to go for it in this sport, and give 100 per cent.

"Manny Pacquiao is popular because he comes to exchange with you, he wants to fight. Once in a while he gets hit, but that is part of the game. Haye is the spark the heavyweight division needs right now.

"I'm sure Haye is going to win this fight. (Evander) Holyfield got a bad decision last year against Valuev, but Holyfield won that fight.

"If a shot 46-year-old Holyfield can beat Valuev, a young David Haye with speed and power means he will be the first guy to KO Valuev."

Well done David Haye an incredibly easy win. Obviously, boxing to very strict tactics that were effective, but the last round showed a little bit more agression earlier and he would easily knocked Valuev out.

P.S. I still think he'll knock out both of the Klitschko brothers. Too much speed and power (when he chooses to use it)

edit: apparently Haye's right hand is broken so probably explains some of his lack of agression)

yes v good win made valuev look very slow and clumsy although valuev was more aggressive he hardly had a single hit of substance on haye

one of the refs judged it as a draw rofl, which fight was he watching

Also Jim Watts colour commentary was rubbish. How he could say that Valuev was landing more punches (and better quality punches??) is beyond me.

haha what a joke. David Haye was poor vs a very poor oppo. I am so suprised the judges didnt give it to valuev..haye did not do enough to win imo esp in Germany... Holyfield would batter the feck out of haye if they fought this year...and that is a fact...... Klichcko's would murder him

when i say lucky pos, what i saw was...

first 6 rounds haye didnt throw hardly ANY punches.
yes valuev was lunging with slow shots. but i reckon he landed more than haye. even up to round 8.

im happy haye won, Happy just think it was closer than what u are saying.

catweasil, 08/11/2009

Understand what you're saying (although I still believe Haye landed more punches) as it wasn't a easy fight to score and it will be interesting to see the official stats when they are released.

just got in, and a bit twatted

but seriously i think haye got it all wrong, and was very lucky to be awarded the win

0-0 bore draw imo

maybe if there was another 3 rounds we'd have seen the giant fall. but if haye was goin fro the points win all along he got lucky coz there wasnt more than 20 landed punches 1st half Sad

anyway brit champion of the worldHappy nite all off to get a "drink Wink

How did he get lucky if his opponent couldn't land any punches? He also has a suspected broken right hand (allegedly happened in the 3rd round).

Valuev is probably the worst Heavyweight champion ever, but give credit where credit is due. He fought exactly the fight that all the experts said he needed to do (apart from Freddie Roach who said he would flatten him - the final round showed that had he adopted different tactics he probably would have as well). Yes we all would have liked to see him stand toe to toe with a guy 10 ins taller and 7 stone heavier, but his tactics were a means to an end.

Bring on the Klitschko'sHappy

Catweasil I understand where you're coming from as it wasn't an easy fight to score. Valuev's body language at the end looked like he felt he had lost. I thought Haye consistently landed more punches, but there weren't that many landed all fight by either fighter. It will be interesting to see the punch stats when they are eventually released.

p.s. this will be my last post on this thread so that other ppls have a chance to post their opinions.

Hmmm close one, I'm absolutely steaming but probably just about the right decision. And to whoever said Holyfield would destroy Haye..............lol that's just hilarious, Haye would rip him a new arsehole. Holyfield only looked good because he was fighting the worst heavyweight champion techincally of all time, still not sure wether to believe Haye broke his hand or not

Lemmo lol wat?
Haye is pesh poor..holyfield who is grandad age battered valuev way more than this cruiserweight joker..haye is a haymaker..if he dont land in rounds 1-3 and ko the oppo he is fcked. Valuev is a joke heavyweight champ and haye barely deserved to win that..I would put my house on vit klit smashing the feck outta him in no more than 5 rounds. Holyfield would beat him in 12. Heavyweight boxing has hit all time low Sad

The heavyweight division is piss poor theres no doubting that, has been for years. The Klitshko's are just as boring flicking the jab all fight long, its embharrassing, but to say Holyfield would beat Haye just on the two showings against Valuev is laughable. It's like saying because Arsenal beat Wolves by more than Man U there a better team. (Note: Man U haven't played Wolves this year, just an example Tongue Out ).

Holyfields long past it and should of retired ages ago, the only fights left at heavyweight now are Haye v the Klitchko's which is a sorry state of affairs yes, but I bet Hayes first defense isn't even against them, it'll be a journeymen such as Barrett or Ruiz which is a crying shame as it's giving false hope that the heavyweights isnt a complete sham.
