Okay people I've been a member of pkr.com for a few weeks and I'm a relatively new poker player and although I've posted in a couple of threads I thought I'd introduce myself and have a bit of a rabbit.......
44 years old, into fitness and nutrition although I do enjoy the odd drink, divorced but have a long term gf, recently made redundant and enjoying my time off, learning to cook, learning ballroom dancing, learning poker, no kids but two dogs... A Japanese Akita and a Jack Russell called Yen and Tiny.
Anyhoo I've always been intrigued by the game that is poker, as no doubt many folks have, but never had the opportunity to play or learn.... And then I discover pkr.com and the 10 cents give away... Woohoo!
So what have I learnt????? Well so far the story goes thus...
Read the Dummies Guide to Poker, joined the site and so far, after a few weeks of off and on playing, I've turned $0.00 into $4.00 plus! Okay not exactly a great hourly rate but hey ho its been fun! LOL!
But lessons learnt....
1: At low stakes it generally aint worth bluffing! Too many people will try to keep you honest but if you're going to do it rely on the semi bluff against as few opponents as possible.
2: Be selective about your starting hands
3: Play position
4: Look at the size of the pot, how much it will cost you to 'buy in' and re-look at your hand and the number of outs required before you make a move
5: If you are going to cold call, bet, raise or reraise ask yourself 'Why? What are you wanting to achieve?'
6: AA in the pockets can some turn to sh!t! LOL!
7: Dont take it toooooooo seriously (especially at low stakes)
And probably most importantly.......
7: Even WSOP players/champions can make silly mistakes so dont beat yourself up!!!!!!
Hey we all have a little donk in us! LOL!
So thats what I've learnt after a few weeks and I must admit I'm looking at raising my game (and hopefully my bankroll as well) and getting into some bigger stake games! (FISH alert!)
So folks as I mentioned earlier I do like a drink or three so I'll bid you all farewell and crack open a tinnie!
Have a good one and be lucky!
Jack!
