early on in tournaments i would tend to play quite tight and pick spots against weaker opponents, i dont see the point of getting involved with marginal hands ewarly on that can get you into trouble, especially if you are deep stacked and can find other more profitable situations to accumulate chips with. stealing the blinds is something i also refrain from early on there is such little value in doing it at the lower levels, its just easier to muck your trash and keep a solid reputation and use that in later hands to take down bigger pots that wouldnt be possible if u are seen to be always raising and in a lot of pots,. patience is also a key, no need to be getting massively involved with lesser holdings especially in deeper stacked tourneys you can pick your spots and make sure you get it in with the best of it and hope to hold with your 65%+.

Hello Mr. Pro.

I just want some inside information.
Question:
What do you dream of most of the time?
* money?
* cards? or
* women?

hmm, well generally speaking women have a negative affect on your bank balance so money is important lol but to get the money i have to play the cards .......hmmm most enjoyable thing to "do" would have to be women though Tongue Out Wink

Tiggerrrrrrrrr you should know for sure already ;-).. women, cash, then cards.. ofcourse, formost i dream of you ;-).. hope you are well.. good luck :-)...

As far as the tournament strategy asked by Andy, I find the best way, as Discomonkey says is to refrain from getting into situations in which you are commiting your stack to marginal situations, i.e. when you know you are flipping at best when holding a mid PP, facing an allin.. even if you ar 90% certain he has AK, there is just no point calling off your whole stack, to win a flip, when there are soo many more times when your deeper in the tournament that you can take the flip for a bigger pot... On average to win a tournament you are going to have to win 10 or so flips minimum, so why start flipping at the start of the tournament - you should be trying to get in as few flips or allins behind as possible to increase your chances of going deep. Playing a lot more 'non showdown' pots, that you can outplay or take down without showing your hands to claim the pot increase your chances of going deeper, as you are not commiting your stack at any point, and everybody knows, you need a stack, to remain in the tournament....

Hope this helps... This is a great section for everyone to utilise to improve on your game, so lets get some other good questions, that hopefully one of the Team PKR Pro's can advise on...

hi im new to playing poker for money (only played none money games in past).
i love playing and play as much as i can and read as much as i can on strategys.
so my question is, how do i tell if my game is improving in the time frame ive been playing, as i have no comparisons except for pros.
also how do u read a tell on a computer. i used to look at the size of the othe bets but soon worked out thats not a good way to judge some ones hand .
cuold you please help!!!

the size of the bets is actually a very good way of judging peoples hand size, and its unusual for a polayer of such inexperience(i hope you dont mind me saying so) to pick up on such a thing wd!! you know if u are improving by the way your results are improving, are you making money.... do you feel like you are gettting better?? that is how you know that you are gettin somewhere.

i know exactly how you feel, i think the same when i have been playing a certain game for a few weeks/months, am i winning at this game am i improving am i making more money than i used to be making or am i just wasting my time??

try to focus on the things you think are your weaknesses, as u analyse your game you will notice things that keep doing that lose you chips. keep working on these aspects of your game with the correct attitude and you will be successful.

Hi,

I got a question.

I recently bought nikes to run better in tournaments, however its not working. I've seen some of the PKR Pros ( disco in particular) run like god.

Can you teach me to win coinflips and catch up when you're far behind ? Id like to know how he does it.

Kind Regards,
Bokito

i doesn't help with good shoes if your not fit at all, to run better. i recommend a membership at a gym. GL

spankie:
winning money is normally a good indicator for improvement. but you can still play very good and still lose money due to variance and bad beats. a good thing would be to have a friend that is slightly better than you which you can play together with and discuss hands and situations over MSN or whatever. you both can point out plays from the other part that could be done better.

GL man.

hi im back again with another question.
i was on a table yesterday i had Kc-Qc the flop was Ac-5h-7c, so i carried on as the i thought the odds of another club coming on the turn or the river was pretty good. unfortunatly no clubs came and i lost the hand.so for the next 5 mins i got called a LOSER,STUPID DONKEY, BIIIIINGO.
so my question is did i play my hand wrong?
and what is all this bingo thing and how do you deal with people like that

Hi guys, I have a question please,
When do you know you are ready to move up in buy ins?
I normally play tournies with a buy in of between $5 - $20, i have been playing here and poker for around 5 months and have cashed in 170 tournaments, ft around 80, winning 16 or so but my br is still very up and down. If i move up a level obviously the cashes would be higher but i dont want to wipe out my br due to a bad downswing,
ty for any advice, Happy

if u have the hand history could you post it in a new thread for us and then one of us could have a look at it for you, just saying you are calling for a flush draw doesnt mean much without relative chip stacks and bets and pot size etc.

also some people havent a clue about bet sizing and odds for draws, thus them calling you a fish might not be correct just their misguided perception of it,

ok well i would reccomend having at least 50 buy ins for your current level and then taking very occasional shots at bigger buy ins, if they dont work then stepping back down to your current level, just instead of taking a big leap into a bigger tougher level, you do it a little bit at a time, and test the waters and your skill levels. if u win something it boosts your roll enough to play more and more games.
