Suddenly unable to open PKR

May be a stupid question mate but you have uninstalled and downloaded PKR again right ?

You said you have played PKR before on the same pc....has this only began happening recently and have you made any recent changes to your pc ? I mean, did it just stop working overnight ?

If you go into PKR in your program files try clicking on the 'repair' icon in there.

Sorry im no buff, someone on here im sure will be able to help you out a lot more

Yeah, I tried the full uninstall/reinstall straight off.
No joy.

It did just stop working overnight and I didn't install anything new or update anything that night. (As far as I remember.)

A whole week without PKR now.

Damn mate i would be going through some serious withdrawls by now, probably woulda scraped my last penny together for a cheap new laptop lol.

I dont think it would be your firewall coz it usually wouldnt let you get that far but im sure you have tried that.

Did you try the repair thingy in the PKR files ?

Another longshot but sometimes network providers can block you using gambling sites etc. and they may have introduced this recently.

Sorry i couldnt be of any more help but thats about as far as my wee brain goes on the subject If i think of anything else il give you a shout.

LOL. Withdrawal symptoms!
I'm relishing going to the Mother In Law's so I can play PKR in its lowest specs on an ancient Desktop!
How that for withdrawal symptoms?

I've just tried the repair thingy. It didn't work

I've also tried the same laptop on two different networks and the same problem occurs on both.
(Plus I can access a different well known poker room on these networks.)

I just have the standard Microsoft firewall. So I guess there would be lots of people with the same problem if it was that.

Frustrating.

might be a stupid question but... you sure there weren't any updates done before this happend (windows update after shutting your laptop down or something ?) might be the cause of all this?
or some other program that decided to run in the background ??

A Windows Update is the only software update that I can think of.

Although I have Windows set up to ask for update confirmation so I probably would have made the connection at the time.

Just updated DirectX.
No Effect

well! i had the same problem.
i always reinstalled pkr and after the instalation autoplay,
i didnt found the problem but i "formatated" my whole pc and now its ok

soz for my englise, i speak dutch

Damn still no luck mate eh ? ! That sucks.

I dont know how much you use your pc for other stuff and how many programs / files etc. you have on there....but have you thought of restoring your pc to a restore point when PKR worked ? It may mean having to save a lot of stuff you want to keep onto disk / usb's but that 'might' work.

If you decide to do it mate, go to Start menu / Accessories / System Tools and it should be there.

Just another idea i had and best of luck again Rob.

Just had a final "We don't know." from Tech Support.

So I'm going for a last resort full system restore.

What kind of error do you get?

The ' PKR has stopped working' thing, or the ' pkr.exe fatal exception blablabla' thing?

Half way through complete laptop reinstall so I'm working on memory.

It looked for updates and got to the point where you could press Play, Play Min Spec, Autoplay etc.

After pressing play the window changed to the one which would eventually host PKR.

Whilst the window was black it disappeared and a liitle white window popped up telling me something like PKRApp.exe had failed and asking if I wanted to send an error report. (Which I did.)

The end.

if this laptop wipe doesn't work then that will be it for me until I finally get a new laptop.

It worked.
A full wipe of the laptop cured the problem.
(Just as with Thazep above.)

I've been looking everywhere to get a fix for this, a fill reinstallation seems a little over kill, i think im gona try roll back some windows updates first and see if this works for me, wish me luck
