I had this one in the Open tonight. The villain is completely overplaying his hand, but his line just didn't make sense to me, so I thought I was ahead. Even so, would you call here?

Blinds are now $10/$20
Button is at seat 8
Seat 1: jdnorway - $2,500
Seat 2: jurgen1 - $2,500

jdnorway calls $640 <------- Reraising all in here accomplishes nothing imo. I get rid of hands I'm dominating, but the only two hands I really fear (22 and 33) will call.
Dealing Turn <------ You always hate seeing an ace with KK, but I can't really put him on AQ after the limp pre or A2 or A3 after the reraise on the flop.
jdnorway checks
Hak215 bets $1,730 (all-in)
jdnorway has requested more time
jdnorway: 22? 33? 45?

I would prefer a reraise on the flop, in the open you will often see calls with a fair few hands you have crushed, KQ, QJ maybe mid pairs too.

I am more inclined to call here as played my gut says something like 9s and he sees the A as a scare card and shoves....hard to know in level 1 of the open, but its worth a risk here IMO to try and get a stack.

As it's the open i'd of spewtard min re raised his raise on the flop. Thus the turn I wouldn't give a toss about any bet and call - only in the open.

Interesting, it does stink of "I don't have the A really".

I like the commentary you put down on it though. I'm gonna say though he flips over his flush draw-come top pair happy

Big decision for sure, but what kinda tournament was this? SnG? Buy-in?

He was slow-playing his pocket rockets happy or he was probably holding... KK happy

Just for completeness, I was right, but it didn't matter:

jdnorway calls $1,730
jdnorway shows
Hak215 shows
Dealing River

I hate to have such a big decision to make early on, but if he had raised to 80 preflop, I would've been much more likely to believe he had AQ - but of course then I also would've shoved the flop, so it wouldn't have changed much.

Hi Coach,

I would have thought the same as you, as in the pocket 2's or 3's. So early into the tourney i probably would have laid it down, if i was thinking straight!

Your play was correct, just unlucky really. And I can see why he raised you, he had a top pair and for many (poor ) players a top pair is a way to go. It's hard to lay down KK in this situation.

Reread this for a couple of times, and see the flaw.
