Over the next few months I'll be taking a look at the wide range of poker books on the market. WIth so many books out, picking the right one is tricky. With any luck, people can use this series as a guide to which book will suit their game and budget. I'll be reviewing one or two books a month, with an emphasis on No Limit Hold'em - it's quite simply the overwhelming game of choice for players the world over, especially those who are just starting out.
Aside from the other benefits, this should be great fun for me. I’ve buillt up a serious library of titles over the last few years - some game-changers, and some worth a miss - but just having to re-read (some of!) these books will be a pleasure. One undisputable fact I've learnt: a good poker book is worth it's weight in gold. On this journey, I hope we can uncover some real gems, as well as finding which are only good for wrapping our chips...
Tips for bookworms everywhere
- Take time to read the book, and re-read chapters you didn't fully grasp first time round. Each crucial point you miss could be disastrous!
- Extract yourself from the computer, the telly and the family! Find some peace and quiet - it'll be time well spent if you gain just one piece of wisdom which improves your game by even the slightest amount.
- Take notes if you come across something you find interesting or important. Mark down the book title and page number somewhere, so it can easily be found if needed.
- Try to ensure your books are GREEN and coming from renewable forests! Well that’s my bit done for the environment ;)
So here goes, fingers crossed. To kick off my Book Club series, I'll be reviewing two books that so many players own or have read at some stage:
Doyle Brunson’s “Super system: A course in power poker” £14.99
Doyle Brunson’s “Super system II” £17.49 or 43,000 PKR points!
At the end of September, I'll be back to offer my thoughts on these two celebrated works. I'll also choose a new one to review at the end of the subsequent month, and so on!
Good luck guys and happy reading!
