I just returned from a long weekend in Spain which my girlfriend had booked months ago. It was a surprise to me when she told me on Tuesday that we were going that Friday! I had no complaints though, it was great to chill out for a while by the pool.
I've been trying to play as much poker as I can and over the coming months, I'll be doing some serious grinding. I've just purchased a new pc with dual monitors - it's amazing, as all I was using before to play poker was a laptop. That packed in while I was in Vegas, but it had paid it's way though! I think that old Dell was the best investment I will ever have made. So I ordered a new laptop from the PKR Shop with my PKR Points. It looks very smart - I'll use it for trips away, and I can’t wait to try it out. Talking of trips away, I'll be playing the GUKPT in Cardiff at the end of the month, and I'm really fired up for this one.
The busy life of a poker pro...
I’ve just got through the box set of the TV series ‘The Wire’ which I thought was a great show. There’s one quote that came up a few times in it: “Are you in it for the short con or the long con?” This quote for me is what poker is all about. The everyday player is in it for the short con, while the pro players are in it for the long con, meaning the pro players are out there making small bets, playing small pots with the short con players, and willing to let them win their fair share of pots, but all the time they're building them up for the long con. And it will come, maybe not that day but the next day. What the pro player is doing is giving the average player a false sense of security. For me it’s a quote I will always remember as it sums up my game perfectly.
A plea from the 'babe
Over the next few weeks, go easy on me at the tables. I will be giving up cigarettes on Monday, something I've tried a few times but my heart was never really in it. This time I’m 110% committed and am actually looking forward to Monday (if that doesn’t sound too crazy), so hopefully I can protect myself from super tilt and keep all my finger nails intact!
I'd also like to say congratulations to zlatan35 on his APT win. This was an amazing achievement and just goes to show, if you work hard at your game you can take on the best in the world and win. Well done again, but just remember bankroll management, and spend it wisely. i'm sure he will!
Keep an eye out in the forums too - I'm hoping to set up a poker book review club, where once a month I'll review a book that I've been reading, and ask for your thoughts too, and votes for Book of the Month.
Anyway going to leave it at that for now so til next time, best of luck at the tables!
