I played a nice hand just before the table broke which required some balls, but it worked so happy days. UTG+1 raised and the big stacked button flat calls. I peel back AQo and repop it from 600 up to 2,125 (ie 2.5x the raise + the caller) and get both calling...oh dear. Flop came 2 3 4 with two spades. I lead out for 4,350 which is a very good size imo. They both hate it and fold, which added a sizeable chunk to my stack and i was seriously bossing this table! Please dont move me....! Ten minutes later the table broke. /doh
The big stack to my left tells me he wouldn't be suprised to see me on the final table as i'm a very good player. Ty sir, wp gl. New table and it looks promising - lots of old nitty guys, plenty of short stacks, happy days. No hands before the break and I head off for dinner with a healthy 30k stack, coming back to 200/400/50.
AQ fails even the greatest men
Slightly late back, nothing new there, and I picked up AQ in the big blind. The table folds around to the small blind who limps, so i raise. He then thinks for five seconds and raises from 1,100 to 4,100. I take no time in jamming in 13,000, he goes all-in and I call. *****, he has QQ. I would be very interested in some opinions on this hand because I think even looking back it is a very awkward spot with his limp-reraise. In the few hands he had played, I had seen that he can be tricky and could therefore do this with air, but could do it with big hands too.
I had to raise his limp obviously, but once he'd re-popped, I think flat calling is so bad and weak here as it allows him to fire at the flop. Given it's likely i will miss I can't then continue, so do I fold what is likely the best hand or do I jam it in given I think he has 15k (I do believe I made an error here as I misread his stack size as 15k instead of 20k). Either way I cant re-pop and fold, as i'm so priced in against the range here, getting over 2-1. Anyway I lost that hand and was down to 10K. I have a gamble with QJ vs A6 and win ...one time wweeeeeeeeee!
Then another interesting spot (which I guarantee I play the same a million times): The persistent aggro player in the cutoff raises and the small blind calls. I'm in the big blind with 33 with 14K, and the blinds are 300/600/75. I jam it in to steal the dead 4 or 5K in the pot, the cutoff folds, the small blind tanks and calls with AJ - ....ffs. Flop brings a Jack and I'm out. Was his call on the flop there any good or was it very loose considering he hasnt seen any maniac plays from me? Should he be re-raising preflop if he is going to call my all-in? Interesting what you all make of these hands...
Ciao for now!
