Event 36 $2,000 No Limit Hold'em - 18 June
First hand I had AJ after arriving late (whats new), get raised on my big blind and decide to make an early stand. I re-popped it, I get a call and the flop is A Q 6 rainbow. I lead out for a standard 2/3rd pot bet and get re-raised. Now given the board texture I feel that he wouldn't have re-popped with AQ, 66 or QQ, so my guess is probably that he has AX and a third raise from me will put some serious pressure on the guy. Thus I raise it to 2,300 (1/3rd of my chips), he sighs and folds an ace face up.... tyty. Strike one for the monkey...
A few standard steals: A raise from the fairly tight player in the cutoff who has been raising small ie 2.3x. This time he made it 3.5x, and I smell weakness. I re-pop JTo from the small blind, and he flats. The flop is A K X with two diamonds, so I lead out for a standard bet and he says "seriously??" before mucking. Ty please stack em up.
Next up I had pocket kings whioch were good, but I didn't play particularly well on the turn. I opened for a standard 2.5x raise and get a snap call from the tard on my left. Flop came 9 9 2 rainbow so I lead out and get a call. The turn is an 8 and I shove...which is bad. If i'm losing to the 9/AA/22/88 he's calling anyway so my shove only gets rid of hands I'm losing to, so I'm not maximising my value from the situation. He tells me he holds 55 and folds thus if i play it correctly (ie. check the turn and let him hang himself) then I'll get more money from the opponent than by shoving and getting him to call off his stack. Note to self - don't be an idiot.
Just before before the second break i get an interesting spot where I really like the way I played it. I have 96 clubs and raise from the cutoff. The small blind flatcalls and the big blind looks at his cards and insta-raises from my 550 (at 100/200) up to 1,600. He acted so fast I didnt think there was any way he could have fully comprehended the cards he had and analysed the situation, and thus he was just squeezing. I think for about 3 seconds and 4-bet to 4,150. He sighs and folds. Some guy says "wahey a resqueeze" so I show and the guy wasn't too happy, moaning that he hadn't shown any rubbish and thought AQ was a good 3-betting hand. Maybe he had trash and was embarressed at being outplayed or annoyed he folded the best hand. Either way he got owned and didnt like it...lol.
Ciao for now!
