I was meant to play Day 1a but woke up at 7.30am that day feeling very bad so I decided to switch. I thought I'd arrive late, but ended up arriving just in time for the start. My table looked pretty good so I immediately lost a bunch of chips. In a 6 (?) way limped pot, I bet 225 as the 2nd limper and got raised to 575 on 997ss. I had T9hh and wasn't super pleased with it, but called and then called a 1K bet on J turn out of position. The river blanked and he checked back K9. I'm not totally sure whether I like my line. I'm ok with it, I actually wanted to fold turn but felt like I had too much.
Aces good, kings good
I nitted up and opened over 3x every hand I played, which is a little unusual but I liked it because I was getting a lot of action, so bigger raises are better. I managed to climb back, then played a hand where i open AA to 400 with about 8.5k at 50/100. 4 people flat, 2 in position, 2 out.We see a KQ4. Checks to the 2nd flatter in the hijack, he bets 1.1k into 2k, and I'm the only caller. Turn is a Q wich I'm pretty happy about, I check he bets 1.5k and I call. River K and it goes check-check and I win.
A little while later I open with a 3-way 3-bet pot with KK on QxxQx. Both opponents had pairs, one flashed JJ. I got two small bets in postflop and maybe could have stacked JJ but I think it's relatively unlikely.
I get a little room to open now, although I'm playing pretty tight overall. I chipped up by just winning every hand i played, including one where I 3-bet K4s vs the guy to my right when he opened the button. I kinda let him off the hook earlier with one open, so had to go for it. Flop Kxx, check check, turn A and I bet 700. He looked pretty pissed and folded. The big blind then started asking if I'd call if he shipped, because he had KQ. He probably had a decentish hand because he did consider it for a moement legitimately, and had a weird stack size.
I had 16.4k going into dinner break. It was only 3hrs in but I was glad, because I hadn't eaten yet that day. Straight back i won a pretty big pot with K4 in a 5 way limped pot. The flop of KQ9cch was checked around, turn 4 bringing two tone board. I bet 600, first limper calls, then the guy who kept taking aggro spots raises to 2.5k. I look at it for ages, and definitely know my hand must be good right now. With about 9k behind I raised 4k more and he called! River was a nice 6o, and it's kinda weird because the pot is massive and I know that he knows that I know my hand is good. I consider checking but decide to bet 3150, he folds. I play bad.
Lost race and a busted flush
I got to a high of maybe 22k, before losing a flip I could have avoided. At 150/300 I raise/called a shove for 7.7k total with 66 because I just I felt that the guy couldn't' have a lot of pairs given live reads. I lost vs AK, still don't really like it in reflection. My bustout hand followed soon after. I have 14k and isolate a limper from ep at 150/300 to 1.4k. The guy behind flats, so does limper. I'm not worried by the limper, it's a woman I don't recognise with some chips, but I assume she's not gonna soulcrush me and I'm only really worried about the flatter. I have A3cc and it comes KQ9cc. With 4,350 in the pot i decide I have to just bet/call 3.7k and lose to 99. /gg
In reflection, I probably should never gamble with the 66 just because my chips are worth too much at that stage. The A3cc I felt was fine, I can't do much with my stack size but c/r AI, however I think I get called often too on the flop and will receive a fold on the turn when I jam. when the villain shoves, I must call just because there's too much money out there.
After that I went straight home and played online tournaments for the weekend. Had a bad weekend, but definitely felt like I played well on Sunday. This coming week, I might check out Poker in the Park in Leicester Sq, as well as the fixture list with the football season restart.
