In the first of a series (read Part 2 and Part 3), poker fans from every floor of PKR Towers give their views on who has a great chance to emerge victorious at the inaugural Heads Up Grand Slam. To lift the trophy, the champion will have to win five heads up clashes against some of the best in the business. Here's who we think will do the job...

Like many I’m picking one of the Poker Pack to win, though I suspect that I may be in a minority by plumping for Nam Le rather than his illustrious friend JC Tran. Why Nam? First up, he’s a quality player who’s won a WPT title and come close to a bracelet on a number of occasions. Second, he has an air of coolness about him that makes him a formidable heads up opponent. And last but not least, I don’t see him making many mistakes and giving up chips easily.
For what it’s worth, I think he’ll see off his good friend JC Tran in the semis before pipping Peter Eastgate in the final.
Selection: Nam Le
Next best: Peter Eastgate

The PKR cash game legend and APPT champ Beyne has a lot of experience playing heads up, and even though this is mostly via cash games, the knowledge gained should stand him in good stead.
As far as alternatives go, male ego can cloud a player’s judgment when up against a poker player from the fairer sex and Jennifer Tilly can exploit this.
Selection: Beyne
Next best: Jennifer Tilly

Twenty-one year old Yevgeniy Timoshenko has already proved he can mix it with the big boys having scooped first place in both APT and WPT Main Events over the past year. As long as he can hold his own in a tough first match against Luke Schwartz, expect him to go from strength to strength as the tournament progresses.
Playing on his own turf, the Devilfish will be desperate to put in a good showing. A veteran of the live circuit Ulliott has been there and done it all and this experience coupled with his aggressive style could well intimidate some of the younger players.
Selection: Yevgeniy Timoshenko
Next best: Devilfish
