All the news from the weekend's high roller event

Last week's winner TheSeed23 turned a $26 satellite entry into a $7,200 payday, defeating a 36-runner field in the process. Seven days later, 34 of PKR's toughest deep stack specialists came together for another Saturday Big Shot...

Name: Saturday Big Shot (TV)
Date: 15 August 2009 19:00 GMT
Runners: 34
Buy-in: $500
Prize pool: $17,000
Duration: 5hrs 49mins

  1. Mack05 $6,800
  2. kongbuk $4,080
  3. Fred85 $2,720
  4. kingcoles $2,040
  5. Romano94 $1,360

The elite field was reduced to the last six after 3hrs 45 mins on Saturday evening, with PKR high stakes cash regular Fred85 entering the final table with the chip lead. The Swede held 120k to 2nd place Mack05's 50k, while short stack gomesovic attempted to evade the bubble on 30k.

Another marathon bubble

After 29 mins of tension, Frenchman gomesovic moved in his last 10k into the middle but could not prevail against fellow short stack Mack05, whose QTs flopped a ten against gomesovic's KQ.

Fellow Frenchman Romano9, a Grand Prix champion and multiple Open finalist, suffered a similar fate, his AJs outdrawn by the JTs of Mack05.

Irrepressible Welshman kingcoles lost a huge pot with A7 v Mack0's A8 before again falling foul of the Dubliner's hot streak, his last 16K lost with AKs v A7. The Cardiff resident, 11th on the All Time Money List courtesy of wins in $20K, $15K and $10K events, departed in 4th for $2,040.

High stakes cash game regular Fred85 was making only his 3rd appearance at a PKR final table, his cash game skills proving more than adequate in the face of apparent lack of PKR MTT experience. When 3-handed play began, Fred85's chip lead had evaporated, the Swede sat on 90k to his two opponents' 100K+ stacks. His strong run finally came to an end when his 99 fell to kongbuk's QQ.

Heads Up

Despite entering heads up play with a slender chip lead, kongbuk's fortunes changed after he was forced to correctly lay down two pocket pairs on overcard flops. With a 90k - 250k deficit, the then Dane moved in with AJs to his Irish opponent's 22. The poker gods favoured the latter player, a deuce appearing on the river to crown another Big Shot champion.

The runner-up improved on his 4th place in the 11 July Big Shot, while Mack05 added to Open and Grand Prix victories gained in 2008.
