The raucous celebrations of the warm-up party have faded and in the early afternoon silence of the Loose Cannon club all I can hear are the riffling of chips and shuffling of cards. The build-up is over - this is day one of the PKR Live III Main Event.
Players and staff lucky enough to attend last night’s festivities at the King Pin Suite in Bloomsbury may be looking a little bit bleary eyed this morning, but the aftereffects should soon be staved off as the coffees and Red Bulls begin to flow.
Bigger buy-in nerves?
PKR Live III marks the introduction of a $1,000 buy-in Main event, and while the PKR Pros seem to be taking things in stride it’s a fair guess that this marks the highest buy-in live tourney for the vast majority of the participants – with plenty of nervous smiles and apprehension to underscore the point. It should make for a tense few opening levels as players relax into their rhythm.
