Having spent several months in Vegas over the last couple of years I have come to expect a few things from my first day in the city of sin.
I wasn’t disappointed when I peeled my eyes open this morning. Sure enough, my wallet was empty, my mouth as dry as a camel’s behind and my head pounding with an echo of thumping tunes from the night before. My heart beat sounded like a deafening drum in my ears and the whir of the air con was like nails down a chalk board.
I’m trying to piece together the events of the night before as I write this article, but so much of it is a blur that I’ll have to beg your forgiveness for any omissions and the lack of detail in what follows.
Within an hour of landing I was already sat on the $2/$4 limit cash table with PKR_Danski, Disco, Rocafella and Piratenation. This was without doubt one of the most insane limit cash games the Palms has ever seen. In our defence we weren’t taking it as seriously as some of the locals that decided to sit with the ‘crazy’ Englishmen, but we were certainly having more fun and making more noise than anyone else in the entire casino. We were playing blind and flipping our cards over after four-betting every street. When we did look at our cards we were announcing our hands and still paying each other off (thanks, disco).
From the poker table we moved to Blackjack where we were joined by PKR_Jake, kingkai84 and TheMightySwe for more mayhem. After donking away most of my dollars with an endless stream of $10 and $20 bets I decided that the only way to beat the house was to make one big bet and walk. In typical jammy Jabba style I emptied my wallet and whacked $180 bucks on the table (disco and Jake added another $100 playing behind) hit my first blackjack of the night and walked away feeling like a winner – despite actually breaking even.
From Blackjack it was off out for a staff dinner to discuss the plans for the party and this is where it all starts to become a bit of blur.
The Shadow Lounge in Caesars was our next stop and we met up with a load of players and proceeded to drink like it was going out of fashion.
I’m going to be honest here and admit that my slight build and low body weight stand me at a disadvantage when drinking with the likes of james666, kingkai84 and the other hardened PKR party animals. It should come as no surprise that it was at this point that my memory starts to fail me, but for those of you that know me it also won’t shock you to hear that I ended up in Spearmint Rhino. I won’t embarrass those who accompanied me who still have a reputation left to protect, but I will say that by the time I made it home I was alone, a bit under the weather and unable to walk down the hotel corridor without stopping to steady myself against the wall. When I woke up this morning I was naked on the bathroom floor with a towel wrapped around me and a cigarette butt in my ear. Ah, good times eh!
