Jester8 unable to take the lead as variance takes it's toll

Updates from the second day of PKR's community Play Money contest

By PKR_Danski on Wednesday 12 Aug 2009 13:15

After moisty's rough ride on Monday night, it was Southhampton resident Jester8's turn to go for top spot. A finish better than 90th would put him in front with three nights to go....

Day One: moisty1985 - $0 cash, best finish - 90th.

Day Two: Jester8...

Today's brave soul was selected as a result of his email entry, which read: "I would like to win a free seat for my wife and children. It seems like a fair swap to me!". He took on the same three MTTs as his Win your Roll competitors, a varied test of big field, deep stack and pre-flop skill. Here's how he fared...

PKR Open $10k GTD - 180/620

Choppy seas in level one saw Jester8's stack halved after AK and 55 failed to connect. After 35 mins with 1,095 chips left, he shoved with A7 and outflopped his opponent's QQ to double up. With 3.5 bb's remaining, he moved in with 33, called by Doncalim's A-2. An ace on the flop ended our intrepid Day Two competitor's first bite at the cherry...

$5 Deep Stack - 115/236

Smooth sailing through level one courtesy of AQ v QT on a Q-hi flop, our hero then took a hit, his A-9 outdrawn by Q-J after a 9-high flop and a queen on the turn. The hand left him with more than the 5K starting stack however, and with plenty of play left it would be a long, patient slog. After another double up with AK v QJ, the final fateful hand occurred. Having called LasVegasPlayer's raise with pocket fours, our hero opted to shove the turn after check-checking the three-overcard flop. Unfortunately his opponent had flopped top two and turned the nut boat - that was the end of that.

$5 Deep & Steep $2.5K GTD - 441/537

A final throw of the dice in the 21:00 GMT Deep & Steep for our hero. An early opportunity with AA resulted in a modest pot, Jester8 calling a shortstack's preflop shove and busting his opponent's A8 to increase his starting stack by 10%. After some damage limitation with A8s on a blank flop reduced his stack to 3K, a loose call with QJ found him facing AQ and probable elimination. No help from the board and our hero departed, his shot at the Play Money crown now gone.

We wish today's challenger the best of luck. Check out the thread in the PKR Forums for news on the identity of that player!

Behave! I tried......played okay, made a few bad calls and a few good ones! Beaten on occasion by luck not judgement.

If anything learned - I need to gain a greater patience, and the ability to juggle two tables at the same time, which I had never done before.

SOTVandy - Eat me! You wereinexperienced once, got better by playing. The whole internet have just watched me play, the only truly negative comments FROM YOU! Wind your neck in knob jockey!
