And the winner is...
Every week we ask you to send us your nomination for the PKR player of the week to news&events@pkrtech.com. We’ve received some fantastic nominations this week for some players who defo deserve some recognition - but only one can walk away with the title.
This week the voting was unanimous - and a reminder that nice guys finish first. Actually it goes beyond being a nice guy and into the realm of honour when a player shows the class that megazord did in our inaugural $30,000 High Roller event...
Player of the week

megazord - Birmingham, UK
Nominated by: AmokMal (among many others)
AmokMal says
“I think megazord should be the PKR player of the week because when I was heads up with him in the $30,000 High Roller I got disconnected and he sat out while I reconnected. Now at the time the pressure was on, there were several Aussies on the rail cheering “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi” (felt just like the cricket) every time I won a big pot…
When it was 3 poms against 1 Aussie there where comments about how that is pretty fair odds etc. So as the last English player standing he could have felt justified in taking advantage of my disconnect. But, like a true English gentleman, he didn’t and aside from the obvious glory of winning over an Aussie there was $5,000 difference between first and second...”
We say
We’ve all been there - you’re heads up in a tourney, your opponent has disconnected and you can either...
A. Keep hitting the min raise button as fast as you can in an attempt to finish your opponent off before he can re-connect.
B. Use up your entire time clock when the big blind is on you and fold every small blind while you wait for your adversary to sort out his technical issues.
A quick show of hands at PKR towers shows that roughly 2/3 of the poker degenerates working here would stump for option A (rising to a unanimous 100% if we were playing each other). But, as his High Roller opponent rightly points out, megazord is made of different stuff. With a very big $12,880 on the line for first place ($5,000 more than second place money) megazord took option B - sitting out and waiting for his opponent AmokMal to re-connect (and THEN went on to beat him) earning the respect of players who paid tribute to his class in this thread.
Congratulations gents! In addition to being the one-two finishers in our first High Roller event - magazord wins a ticket to a Stage 3 Masters qualifier worth $45 + $4.50 for being player of the week and AmokMal wins the same for nominating him.

3. Player: Madoc723
Nominated by: whiskymac

4. Player: Andolf77
Nominated by: Jipje
Reason
“I think Andolf77 should be the PKR player of the week because he got to three final tables in tourneys in the last week, including a first place finish! That was the $1,000 GTD ‘Deep & Steep’. Being chosen player of the week should give him confidence to keep on playing that well.”
