Thanks for taking part Ashley - how long have you been at PKR?
25 months, 23 days, 6 hours, and 51 minutes.
What's your job title?
Fraud Analyst
OK then, but what do you really do all day?
I assess the risk involved with any deposits made on the site, which involves analysing a series of reports generated both internally and by our payment processors. I’m also responsible for game-play checks and the review of payments. Basically, it’s my job to analyse any financial transaction to and from the site.
What do you like most about your job?
I’d be lying if I said my idea of fun was crunching numbers all day, but there’s a certain amount of reward knowing you’re keeping the site safe. Spotting patterns and developing new policies and reports to prevent fraud is a challenge I enjoy. Above all though I’d say the people at work are what makes my job truly enjoyable. It’s a great atmosphere to work in.
What keeps you up at night?
I won’t lie – general insecurities and whiskey.
As a person who seems to enjoy both immensely, is it better to be lucky or to be Canadian?
If we’re talking about poker I’d have to say it’s better to be lucky. Somehow nationality seems to be irrelevant during the blind rage you feel in wanting to lunge across the table and ‘emote’ the guy who just cracked your aces with 9-3. From travelling all over though I really believe there’s nothing better to be than Canadian, even if only because most people don’t know enough about us to hate us. Vancouver is taking the Stanley cup this year, by the way. [ED. Clearly Ashley's innocence and faith is one of the reasons we hired him.]
If you could have one super-power that you could only use at work, what would it be?
The first 17 powers I envisioned were not ‘safe’ or ‘professional’ enough to be posted here. I’ll just say uh, let’s see… precognition? Animal mimicry? Temporal duplication? Yeah. Temporal duplication.
What do you do to relax after a long day at PKR?
I really don’t take much time to relax. I guess I just enjoy cooking a good meal and watching a film. But that doesn’t sound all that relaxing so I’ll say my idea of relaxation is burning juniper incense sticks whilst drinking a snifter of port by the fireplace, reading posthumously released biographies of 1940’s film noir actresses.
