PKR Staff in Profile: Bringing the game to life

How long have you been at PKR?

Just over 4 years now.

What’s your job title?

Lead Animator.

OK then, but what do you really do all day?

I guess I’m like Frankenstein. I inject life into the avatars that players create! Apart from that, I work with programmers to add new animations to the game - and delegate some of my work to the rest of the team.

What’s the coolest thing you ever animated for PKR?

I’d have to say the chip tricks. As an animator, it always helps if you can do the action/acting yourself and use that real life example to create the animation. That's how I created all of the chip tricks you can see in the game - by doing them myself on video then copying the movements in animation. Apart from the Snake charmer of course which is impossible (well, beyond my abilities anyway). It really made me laugh when I saw videos of the ‘Snake charmer’ go up on YouTube with discussions as to whether it could actually be performed! If anyone out there can do the Snake Charmer - let me know!

What do you like most about your job?

I’m an animator so I’d have to say - making stuff move! Apart from that, the fact that I have a lot of say about the game-play in PKR and get involved in a lot problem solving that comes with how the animations work with the rest of the game.

What keeps you up at night?

I wish I could stay up at night! I can’t even make it to the end of a movie without the embarrassing head nods and foot jerks.

If you could have one super-power that you could only use at work, what would it be?

To bend the minds of others, and allow my crazy ideas into PKR.

What are your other passions in life?

Food (cooking and eating), playing football (badly) and running like Forest Gump.
