Vote now to decide who 'Steps up'!

You decide which small staker takes this week's Stepping up challenge...

By PKR_Billy on Monday 8 Feb 2010 16:00

Each week we give you the chance to decide which one of three small stakers will take part in the Stepping up challenge.

Our three contenders state their cases - whoever has the most votes by 17:00 GMT Tuesday walks away with $43 worth of tourney tickets to popular PKR events. The only thing we ask in return is that they report back to us on just how well - or badly! - the experience worked out for them.

To cast your vote just enter the name of the contender you think is most worthy in the comments section below. Only one vote per person will count. You can then read about their exploits a week later.

This week’s choices are...

hbk2006 says...

hbk2006

"Hello,

I just thought I'd send in an application to get the chance to step up like other low stake players.

I would like to be chosen because I believe that I've still not really had the chance to prove myself and think that given the chance I could do well. I don't know what a lot of the higher stake tournaments are like and this is my main reason for applying because I would like to see the different class of player and even if I don't do well I hope that I will at least learn something and improve my game some more."

Padders says...

"Hi,

I've had a break from poker for six months but yesterday had a twelve hour session on PKR.
I played a few cash tournaments and just about managed to double my small $25 stake.

I'm ready for the higher level, if you'll have me...bring it on!"

FilipStan says...

"Hi,

I started playing poker about 7-8 months ago on facebook (there I learned the rules). After that I discovered PKR and played freerolls and after few tournaments I finished first place of 3000 players to win $11.33.

I play micro stakes, mostly Sit & Go’s (1$-3$), freeroll tournaments and micro stake MTTs, but plan to move to a higher level when I build some bankroll.

I deposited $30 and the first few weeks were great and I won $40 from Sit & Go and the feeling was great - but since then the last few months haven’t gone to plan, but I haven’t lost hope.

I started reading The Little Green Book from Phil Gordon and follow the advice in the Raise your game section, and have learned some things that have improved my game, but I cannot move to next level because of my bankroll. I understand that if you want to become a great poker player you have to improve your game, learn from your mistakes and try, try, try and never give up!

So I know that if you give me chance to test myself in some big tournaments that I will succeed and finally pass to next level. I'm confident in my game but don't have the bankroll to prove it. So please give me the chance to prove it.

Thanks and good luck to the tables  ;)"

If you are a small staker whohas made at least one deposit and think you could hold your own at a higher level of poker then email us at

and tell us why we should pick you.

Padders. I voted for you. We need more women in this game at the top to unsettle the guys as thy hate to lose to women and that to me is very chovanistic. Good luck. James.

hbk2006 gets my vote, although all three have ver good reasons for my vote but hbk is in a situation very much like myself its one thing learning the rules and another wanting to learn the finer points of the game.the only way to learn these are in real situations against the better class of player although higher stakes does not necessarily mean better player some just have big bankrolls so good look hbk2006

Although, I voted for Filipstan it was a tough decision and I think HBK got enough votes to deserve the chance next time around, or at the very least, another opportunity in the next vote:)

Good luck Filipstan

hbk2006 ... would like to c this guy win i guess... everyone has a valid reason. Learning playing styles and adapting to u r opposition really advanced my game from small stakes to mid/lower. 10-40 mtt... what i c most on lower levels is the i dont care factor cause its only a couple of dollars, excessive tilt, bluffing and calling insane raises with a medium hand. (higher stakes catch on to pple like that faster) and finally under beting pots (I m talking to u slow players) -pot odds.
anyways i m just writing this cause PKR is under its usual monday upgrade and I m bored and a better understanding of these theories turned me into a LOOSING! poker player into a winning online poker player. sooo goood luck!

I've known him for quite a while online and I think he's ready to tackle a few of the bigger games. His game shows some promise and this could be just the ticket to kick him on to the next level.
