Just fourteen runners are left in event #45 at the 2009 World Series of Poker, the $10k Pot Limit Hold’em World Championship. And you can catch all the action live and exclusive from around 21:00 GMT at http://wsop.pkr.com.
Going into the business end of pot limit holdem’s biggest event, British pro and unofficial fifth Hendon mobster John ‘Large’ Kabbaj holds a massive chip lead with his stack accounting for over 20% of all the chips in play. Kabbaj built his monster stack in a classic aces versus kings confrontation, with all the money going in pre-flop after Kabbaj called Bryn Kenny’s six bet all-in! And they say pot limit is a gentler form of hold’em.
But while he holds a dominating lead, Kabbaj is unlikely to get things all his own way in his quest for a first ever bracelet. Three former bracelet winners remain in the shape of Jason Lester, Davidi Kitai and Eric Baldwin, while dangerous Russian Kirill Gerasimov is well placed with over half a million in chips.
While we’d naturally like to support a fellow Brit, the headline writer in us is holding out hope for the man currently lying in 9th, the unfortunately named Darryll Fish. Who knows, he could be the first fish to win a bracelet since the 2007 main event!
