The Interview
Danski: Thanks for talking to us, Steve! We've seen your impressive PKR resume already. Tell us about your onffline results.
Zeorbok: I don't play live much, but should do more. In a vast majority of instances I've got it in good and been unlucky. I played three European ranking events at Dusk Till Dawn (final tabled one and 11th another, both cashed). I know I have the tools in my locker to take one down so I need to get away from my laptop LOL. Biggest disappointment was crashing out of the main event of PKR Live II around 30th place. I played really well, really enjoyed the table of death (Table 15), got moved, then got involved in a hand I really shouldn't have been in, and the rest is history.
D: What's your favourite hand?
Z: I have two, 6-4 suited and pocket 2's. They are both so well disguised when you hit big. With 6-4 I have had some monsters in the blinds, and have flopped straights and full houses (Don't limp or min raise my blind, nothing better than cracking A-A with a big blind monster LOL). 2-2, well I have had more sets and quads with 2-2 than any other hand - got to love the ducks.
D: Least favourite hand?
Z: Easiest question, pocket jacks, I think I have busted out with J-J more than any other hand. They look so pretty, you are really obliged to raise with them from early position. Look pretty, but are easily beaten.
D: Favourite poker format?
Z: Deep stack, long blind NLH, goes without saying. Enough chips and time to play real poker, and of course lots of action.
D: Least favourite format?
Z: At the moment Omaha. It's so easy to flop the nuts and end up third best by the river. I really haven't played enough, but now that Hi/Lo has arrived I will probably play more. I got some good tips off TheMangus for that one.
D: Most feared/respected players?
Z: I don't fear any great PKR players, (the dangerous ones are those that are new to the poker journey), but there are many I respect. The list is long but to name a few; brutusnr1 - excellent reader of the game; TheMangus - great live player (who taught me a good lesson in HORSE); TheSqueeze, never seen anyone put people on tilt like him, great meta game; Pokey85,Tigerwing, Rocafella, IneedUrChips, and I have to mention Discomonkey as probably the most improved player I've seen with some awesome results. He's put a couple of awful beats on me, but that's the way he plays, aggressive, and you have to respect that. There are many others and apologies to those that didn't get a mention but you know who you are.
D: Poker high and low points?
Z: Winning, what else? Well there are of course the world famous PKR Live events, awesome!! When I move to Australia, I will be back for them! In terms of low points, I've never had one. Down swings and variance are part of the game so I accept that. I guess I have two big disappointments - firstly not taking down one of the DTD events. I played one hand badly and put a huge dent in my stack and the guy showed me a bluff (I folded my semi bluff when the odds really said I had to call, it will never happen again). Second, crashing out of PKR Live II the way I did. I really fancied the final table there.
D: Favourite PKR MTT?
Z: $3K Deep Stack, $100 buy-in. I have an awesome record in that and I love the format. The Big Shot is great also, but need to work on my strategy on that one.
D: Poker goal?
Z: I love the game, and would like to play professionally one day and compete in all the big events. I have some leaks in my game, and the only way to learn is to play with better players than yourself.
D: Cash game experience?
Z: I don't play much cash, but easily spot the cash players when I'm playing tournaments. I probably should play a bit more, but i know I can make good money playing tournaments. I prefer the satisfaction of doing battle for 4 or 5 hours or more with a big field and coming out on top, rather than grinding cash tables for hours.
D: Give us a player to watch for the future
Z: Have to back my daughter there, AFCWombelle; raw, fearless talent and a potential star of the future, phenomenal reader of the game for such a youngster, I may even bankroll her myself.
The Marginal Decision: Who plays better, eyesofgreen (wife) or AFCWombelle (daughter)?
Z: Apologies to my better half, but it has to be AFCWombelle!
D: Thanks Steve! Best of luck in the future.
