hi james, just a quickie, dunno if you remember but i was your first victim on sat night lol, your J8 flush draw shove against my top pair and open ended and you hit J on the river, what i want to know is, did you shove just because I min re-raised? We had a discussion about a hand yesterday. I 4-Bet your squeeze play with 88 and finally called your shove. You asked me how I could call that when i am flipping against 20 % of your shoving range.
I am ignoring a bluff and assume you are shoving AK and QQ+, there are 16 different possibilites how you can be dealt AK and only 6 for each pair. So finally I am flipping against 47 % of your range not 20 % for the rest I am 4:1 underdog. I don't want to tell you the whole calculation but i got 36 % equity against your range - quite enough for a call there (I needed 30 %)

omg a reply lol, getting desperatly p'd off now at no cards coming and not having the balls to do much with nothing. I am getting so close in a lot of tourmeys by scraping through, but no major cashes for a while when it comes to real money sizes, doing ok a micro, but anything higher is just a lost cause, but I know I have the game. I made you fold a pair pre-flop in that game with only A hi if I remember correctly, but I do it once and then start to get very nervous of doing anything, any advice?

Just read your latest piece in the raise your game section. It sounds like you've got your head screwed on. I could recommend a few non-poker related books on a similar theme to your message (7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey would be my first).
I went through a similar sounding patch with my career (not poker! - nowhere near good enough) and I found the same answers you seem to have and it's great to see life for what it is.
I went through a really rough patch before I found those answers though. Hope you haven't and if you did and are still in there feel free to message me.

Thanks to everyone for this PKR Live, you all made it very fun for me. I try to do the same sort of Jaeger sessions at other festivals, but nowhere does them quite as well, and sociabally as PKR guys!!!

Hey James, I hope you dont mind answering a question. I read something you said a while ago about how you have to know that your better than most people, and that you cant just learn it. Well I think I could take poker seriously, I have a good attitude and constantly trying to improve my own game, aswell as reading good books for reference. Hi Andy, Marius, whichever your real name is :-)..
with 4-5k stack, and blinds at 400/800 (whether ante's are in play too or not) you should be looking to shove allin or fold. You only have 5-7xBB's so you should be jamming allin any Ace, PP, two face cards or literally your top 80% of your hand range in the cutoff or on the button. You do not have the stack size to raise fold, and the last thing you want to do is raise small, or limp, and have someone push allin on you on the flop when they connect they're 73 offsuit... The reason for getting in a very wide range of hands with this size stack is because you will take down the 1200 pot (more with ante's) every time you get the other players to fold, and if you do get called you will always have outs to hit, if not be ahead already.

hello james ty again for the reply.im starting to get the odds thing.now i would like to ask you,what is the best way to play weak aces? when u go deep into a tourney the blinds are (lets say 400/800) and ur sitting on a 4-5k stack.
also same thing with small pokets.is it right to just limp and see a flop?or put a raise in and try to take it preflop(im just scared sometimes i will get called by two over cards who hit on the flop). sometimes i try to put my opponent on a hand based on the bets he made,but im preet sure thats not enough,is it?

Hay m8 how r ya, i hope u dont mind me asking a quick question? im just curious as to a good strategy to use for micro limits as i want to grind my way up the stakes without having to deposit extra if possible, but the hard part obviously is beating the donks, and call stations at these limits.
Basically my general micro game strategy is -
Early - JJ - AA and AK
Middle - 99 - AA - AQ, AK
Late - 77 - AA - KQ, AJ, AQ, AK
i will raise 4 times the BB, +1 BB for every player that has entered the pot b4 me.
Thats my basic principle that i stick to in micro cash :) any help on how u would play it would be much appreciated thanks m8!!

lukeboy - with certain exceptions most peoples game lacks when it comes to later stages of a tournament. It is easy to grind out the early stages when blinds are low, just playing premium hands, butwhen the blinds get high and your stack gets low, you have to start gambling.. As a general rule of thumb, you need to be attacking the blinds alot more with marginal holdings. With 4-8 BB's you should be pushing any two cards on the button, into the blinds, 9-13xbb's you should be jamming most PP's and high Ax's and with 14-19xbb's you should be looking to 3 bet allin with a wide range of hands. The idea is to get a double up, even if you are called and are behind, you still have outs, and you need a large stack to play poker...

Hi there, ive bin playing on off for say 2 years and can play pretty well but just seem 2 fall short in tourneys normally due to being unlucky losing in a race.. Do you have any tips for later stages in the tourney which might help me say when i get down to the last 40/30 of a tourney to help me progress and not find myself short as blinds also increase.
